Lenovo sees refurbish and scrap products as a challenge in Bangladesh

Global technology brand Lenovo is moving from consumer to enterprise market in Bangladesh. However, Naveen Kejriwal, senior General Manager of Lenovo's overseas business consumer commercial and tablet affairs, sees refurbished and scrap products as a challenge.

He opined so while talking after the announcement ceremony of handing over 1500 Neo 50S desktop PCs to Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC at a five-star hotel in the capital on Sunday night.

During the conversation, he said that due to the violence of Gray Channel, their business reputation is getting damaged. We don't know how to bring refurbished laptops in Bangladesh. They are coming from Africa, Japan or Dubai. Some dealers are doing it together. By this the buyers are being cheated. We therefore request the government to take steps to stop importing scrap or refurbished products as it is illegal.

Naveen Kejriwal mentioned the business challenges of refurbish and scrap products for companies like Lenovo and said, we have a buy back and get back policy in e-waste management if the laptop or PC expires. We take everything back from the buyer except the drive itself. I use what is salvageable from the rest. And we recycle 40 percent of the plastics.

But for this work, they have not yet found a suitable organization for e-waste management in Bangladesh, said Lenovo's Overseas Business Consumer Commercial and Tablet Senior General Manager. He said, unfortunately we do not have any partner for recycling in Bangladesh. So at the end of the day it's up to us. Those who destroy them have their own methods. They are individual vendors. We have not found such a vendor in Bangladesh. That is why the government has to take the responsibility of green disposal of waste. We have also spoken to XL about this. If they fix such arrangement then we will take back the expired products from Bangladesh too. Buyers will also benefit from this.

Naveen Kejriwal also said that although Lenovo, student and gaming laptops are more popular in Bangladesh, sales are also increasing in the commercial sector. This is the benefit of the government's digital and smart Bangladesh initiative.

Naveen Kejriwal, senior General Manager of Lenovo's overseas business consumer commercial and tablet affairs, has supplied 1500 units of Think Center to Islami Bank Bangladesh, the country's largest private bank, using this advantage. He officially handed over the contract products to JQM Habibullah, Additional Managing Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh.

Excel Technologies Limited Managing Director Gautam Saha said at the event, it is important for us to invest in ourselves today to build a smart Bangladesh, so that we can achieve excellence tomorrow.

In the event, Lenovo Bangladesh Regional Channel Manager Hasan Riaz Jitu; BRAC Net Head of Operations Mukarram Hossain, Computer Village Managing Partner Mohammad Jasim Uddin and Excel Technologies Director Masud Hossain were present.
